Why does the 2019 Jetta only have one engine option?

Amidst all the new features in the 2019 Jetta, such as the 10-color ambient lighting and BeatsAudio sound system, there is one big change Volkswagen did that might have some people scratching their heads. The 2019 Jetta only comes with one engine option: a 1.4L turbocharged engine similar to the one found in the 2018 model. It gets an efficient 147 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, which is great on fuel efficiency but is less powerful than the 2.0L turbo available in 2018. The reality is that with the larger Passat and the 2019 Arteon coming out, there wasn’t much need for a bigger engine as drivers have the choice of upgrading to a larger model. By keeping one engine, Volkswagen was actually able to make the 2019 Jetta less expensive than the 2018 base model!
