Is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta a Good Winter Car?

How well does the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta handle winter?

Here in Milwaukee, the winter months can get pretty rough. Last winter we got about 56 inches of snowfall. The average high temperature for January 2019 was in the high 10s, and that’s without windchill. If you park your car outside or even just stay for a few hours at a friend or family member’s place, then you know the mad dash outside to quick start your car (that invariably fills your shoes with snow), turn on the defroster, and crank up the heat, followed by either running back inside so your car can warm up enough to scrape the snow and ice off of it or waiting in your frigid car, hoping your excessive shivering somehow vibrates the car into warming up faster. If snow is falling, then you have ample time to contemplate the upcoming trip, hoping the roads are fit for driving.

How does the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta winter conditions? Let’s take a look.

Check Our Selection of Winter Tires

  1. Baby, It’s Cold Outside: the ‘Cold Weather’ PackageVW car covered in snow

The good folks over in Germany also deal with tough winters, so the Volkswagen engineers understand the winter struggle. Because of this, the mid-year models have an available ‘Cold Weather’ package that includes heated windshield wipers, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and (mercifully) remote start. Now if they could just invent automated snow-scraping; we’re hoping that package is available for the 2020 Jetta.

  1. I’ll Be Home for the Holidays: Safety Features

With significant snowfall happening sometimes as early as Thanksgiving, traveling to and from family gatherings can be scary. The 2019 Jetta has super stable FWD, complimented by a plethora of safety features: Autonomous Emergency Braking and Automatic Post-Collison Braking to make sure you can stop when you need to, Forward Collison Warning and Front Assist to help you avoid rear-ending accidents, Lane Assist to make sure you don’t drift into other lanes, a Rear Traffic Alert system for when you’re backing up, Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution and Electronic Stability Control for total control while turning and driving, Intelligent Crash-Response System to protect you and alert others in case of a collision, and a safety cage. The High Beam Control on the crisp and powerful LED headlights will make sure yourself and others can see through that winter blizzard by automatically brightening your headlights at certain speeds and dimming them when oncoming traffic passes.

  1. Let It Snow!: Volkswagen’s No-Worry Warranty

Winter is a great time to brush up on some skills, so let’s do a little German lesson. “Volkswagen” is the combination of two German words: “volks,” meaning “people,” and “wagen,” meaning “car.” Volkswagen wants you to know that people always come first, and this is reflected by their stellar 6-Year/72,000-Mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. Besides keeping you covered, if (for some crazy reason) you ever wanted to sell your 2019 Jetta, that warranty would transfer to the next owner, turning your Jetta from a great purchase into a sound investment.
