How to Fix a Frozen Fuel Line

What to do if your fuel line is frozen

A frozen fuel line is one of the most frustrating things to deal with in the winter. Your fuel line, the hose used to transport fuel from the storage tank to another part of the vehicle, can become frozen in extremely low temperatures, which will make it nearly impossible to start your car. So what should you do if it’s determined that your fuel line is frozen? Find out more here on our blog!

How to fix a frozen fuel line

The easiest method is allowing the fuel line to thaw itself by bringing the vehicle somewhere heated. Obviously this can be difficult since the vehicle won’t start and you’ll probably have to push or two it to a warm garage, but if that doesn’t work, you can also bring the heat to the vehicle itself. A portable electric heater near the fuel line may do the trick, although obviously you want to make sure to not use an open-flame heater or heat gun as this can spark a fire.

Another tip is to try adding fuel to the car. Three gallons of gas should do enough to dispel the cold air inside, although this is usually only effective if the vehicle is already low on gas. If that doesn’t work, you can also try using fuel line antifreeze. They’ll sell it at virtually any auto parts store.

Don’t let the weather dictate whether or not you get to drive your vehicle! If you think your fuel line may be frozen, make sure to follow one or more of these steps to get it back to working again. Check out our automotive services here at Hall Cars or contact our team today!
