The CX-5 has done it again. The 2021 Mazda CX-5 claimed the Best Crossover spot on Car and Driver’s "10Best" list for the second year in a row. Other review sites and publications have given it similar rave reviews. Today, we’ll be taking a look at some of the features that have made such a good impression on buyers and critics. Connectivity Suite

Every 2021 CX-5 has plenty of infotainment features. Standard tech includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, 10.25-inch touchscreen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and two USB ports. Upper trims add premium features like integrated navigation, a 7-inch digital gauge display, a premium 10-speaker Bose audio system, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a universal garage door opener, alongside a few others.

Safety Features

The 2021 CX-5 has the i-Activsense safety suite. Vehicles with this suite (such as the CX-5) have forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beams, rain-sensing automatic wipers, and a rearview camera. As with connectivity features, higher trims get more driver assistive features, such as front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, reverse automatic emergency braking, a surround-view parking camera system, adaptive headlights, driver attention monitoring, and a heads-up display.

Powertrain Options

The 2021 CX-5 sports one of two engines: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and its turbocharged variant. The 2.5-liter produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, and Grand Touring trims all come with this engine. The 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder variant bumps performance considerably. With regular fuel in the tank, it pumps out 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. With premium fuel, those numbers go up to 250 horses and 320 lb-ft. The turbo engine is standard for Carbon Edition Turbo, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature trims.
