2020 Jetta Specs

The compact 2020 Jetta S starts off at $18,895, making it one of the most affordable cars on the market today. It gets excellent gas mileage as well, EPA-estimated at 30-city/40-hwy. On the base S trim, Volkswagen prioritized safety and cost-effectiveness, meaning that there isn’t going to be many bells or whistles. Higher trims do gain many features, but if you don’t need or want them, it’s nice to have the option to opt out of them. There is also the performance-oriented version of the Jetta, the Jetta GLI. It swaps out the base the 147-horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder for a 228-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The GLI has multiple other performance features like DCC adaptive chassis control and a DSG seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

2020 Passat Specs

The 2020 Passat is a midsize sedan that focuses more on comfort and space than the Jetta does. It’s about eight inches longer and two inches wider, which translates into roomier seating for passengers and more room for cargo. Its trunk is a competitive 15.9 cu-ft. It has the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the Jetta GLI, but without any of the available performance add-ons that make a GLI a truly exceptional experience. The mpg for the Passat is good, but not as good as the Jetta; the Passat clocks in at 23-city/34-hwy mpg. The base model Passat S has a starting MSRP of $22,995.

Which to Pick?

If you’re looking to save as much money as possible, the Jetta is your best bet, with its lower price tag and better gas mileage. Similarly, if you want a performance sedan, the Jetta GLI, with its many impressive performance features, definitely wins. However, if you want more space or more comfort and convenience features, then the Passat is the way to go.
