Clear snow and ice from all windows and lights- take the time to clear the snow and ice from your vehicle. Not properly clearing off your vehicle can lead to visibility issues for yourself and other drivers. Make sure to clear off your headlights and taillights as snow can cover them and can lead to other drivers not being able to see you are clearly.

Leave plenty of room for stopping- remember that snow and ice can make stopping quickly difficult, so always leave plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. Even if the roads look clear, they could be more difficult than you think.

Know the current road conditions- be prepared with knowing the road conditions ahead of time. Call 511 in Wisconsin for a road update or look online.

Don’t use cruise control- always be prepared and having cruise control on can delay your response time or cause you to break too hard when you hit a slippery patch.

Trucks are heavier than cars- trucks, especially very large trucks take longer to safely respond and come to a complete stop, so avoid cutting quickly in front of them as they may not be able to slow down in time.
