Does the US-Built 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Have a Smaller Battery Entry Model?

Due to the unprecedented demand for the ID.4 all-electric crossover SUV, Volkswagen decided to produce the 2023 model year ID.4 here in the US. However, the company had said that the Made in USA ID.4 would have some changes from the previous model that was being imported from Europe. One of these was an all-new entry-level model with a smaller battery pack. Does the US-built 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 really have a smaller battery model? If so, what kind of range does it offer? Let’s find out in this blog from Hall Cars in Brookfield, WI.

New Entry-level ID.4 model with all-new battery pack

Volkswagen USA has confirmed the 2023 ID.4 will be offered in three trim levels, including a new base model called ID.4 Standard, alongside the ID.4 Pro, ID.4 S, and ID.4 S Plus, all of which will be assembled in Chattanooga, TN.

The new base ID.4, now called the ID.4 Standard, comes equipped with an all-new 62 kWh battery and a single, permanent magnet synchronous motor that powers the rear wheels and provides 201 horsepower. This new 62 kWh battery pack allows for a lower entry price, starting at an MSRP of $37,495 before a potential Federal tax credit of up to $7,500.
