How to Get Better Fuel Efficiency

No one likes spending more money than they have to. While cars with a low MSRP are ideal, you should also be considering vehicles that get great gas mileage. There are measures you can take to optimize fuel efficiency yourself as well. How can you do it? We’ll show you a few tips below.

Tighten the Gas Cap

You’re going to be taking the gas cap off and putting it back on quite frequently over the life of your car as you fuel up. If you don’t tighten it completely, that can cause some of the fuel to be evaporated. Usually your check engine light will turn on to let you know.

Reduce Idle Time

Even when your foot isn’t on the pedal, you’re still using fuel if the vehicle is turned on. If you stop for more than a minute or two, turn the car off.

Accelerate Slower

It takes a lot of juice to punch a multi-ton vehicle forward in a hurry. Rather than these quick stops and starts, accelerate slower and you’ll use less fuel.

Coast Whenever Possible

When you’re out on the open road and can afford to do so, take your foot off the pedal for a few seconds. This is especially useful if you’re going down a hill, because you can allow your momentum to carry your forward, not your fuel supply.

Close the Windows

Open windows create excess drag. By leaving the windows closed, you’re more aerodynamic. Save the open windows for when you’re driving less than 30 mph, as it has less of an impact the slower you’re moving.

There is so much you can do to optimize your fuel efficiency, and these are just some of them. For more tips or for general inquiries, contact us here at Hall Cars!
