Regular vs Unleaded Fuel for Volkswagen Jetta
The 2019 Jetta received a much-needed redesign. While the previous generation was incredibly popular, the new generation is even better with available features like 10-color ambient lighting and a BeatsAudio sound system. The turbocharged 1.4L engine gets an efficient 147 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, but does it need premium gasoline? The answer is no. in fact, there is virtually no added benefit to filling up your Jetta with anything other than regular fuel.
Which vehicles need premium fuel?
Vehicles that are of higher performance are typically required to use premium fuel. Being cleaner and more pure than regular, this fuel keeps performance vehicles like the VW Golf GTI or the VW Golf R running efficiently and gaining maximum power output. For a regular compact sedan like the Jetta, though, the engine is designed to accept regular fuel and as such will not run any better or get more power when you upgrade to one of the more expensive fuel options.

I use the mid grade 89 octane on my 2018 Jetta 1.4t runs best on this gas fuel economy is good to ,tried 91 even better fuel economy but a little less power slower more complete burn? I like the 89
We should say, VW has also not said older models can be run on regular either. It could be the engines have been tuned differently from previous model years, but we’ve heard nothing either way. You might also note that while regular is the new recommendation, the power output figures are based on using premium fuel. Power-hungry drivers may, therefore, still wish to put premium fuel in their Volkswagen. Those simply questioning the fuel economy will note the EPA ratings are based on using regular fuel, so choosing between the grades is not a matter of efficiency.
