Atlas vs Atlas Cross Sport: What to Expect

If you’ve heard about the 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, you may be confused. Is it a type of Atlas, like how the Jetta GLI or the Golf GTI are different models than their namesakes? Maybe it’s a completely new vehicle with an all new design that just borrows the name? There’re multiple possibilities, none of which are self-evident.

Usable Space and Dimensions

The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas has three-row seating standard on both the AWD and FWD variants. The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport only has two-row seating, regardless of the drivetrain. The Atlas Cross Sport is also 2.8 inches shorter and 2.3 inches lower than the Atlas. This reduction gives the Atlas Cross Sport an edge over the Atlas when it comes to handling, as the reduced center of gravity and shorter body reduce body roll. The reduction doesn’t affect utility, however. The Atlas Cross Sport has 77.8 cu-ft of space with the second-row seats folded down. If cargo space is what you’re looking for, though, the Atlas is still worth considering. With both rows of rear seats down, it has a 96.8 cu-ft cargo bay.

Loaded with Tech

Despite their differences, both models are absolutely laden with sweet tech. There are safety and driver-assistive features like pedestrian monitoring, blind spot monitoring, and traffic jam assist. Convenience features are just as plentiful, with things like an integrated 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless device charging, and 5 years of complimentary Car-Net® 2.0. Both vehicles are loaded with technology to make your drive safer and more enjoyable.
