2020 Mazda CX-9 | Milwaukee

2020 CX-9 parked in front of trees as family walks away

With the crossover SUV being the current apple in the automotive industry’s eye, every manufacturer has been scrambling to make theirs better than the competition. But instead of spreading themselves thin with too many different models, Mazda has a few models that they refine over a long period. The results are vehicles like the award-winning CX-5 and CX-9, which, in our opinion, completely outclass the competition.

So how has Mazda refined this year’s CX-9? Let’s take a look.

Trims and Pricing

The 2020 CX-9 comes in four trims, just like previous model years. Each trim has an AWD variant, excluding the Signature trim, which only comes in an AWD version.

  • Sport - $33,790 (FWD); $35,690 (AWD)
  • Touring - $35,610 (FWD); $37,510 (AWD)
  • Grand Touring - $41,450 (FWD); $43,350 (AWD)
  • Signature - $46,115 (AWD)

Upgraded Standard Features

The i-Activsense safety and driving assistance suite has been upgraded across the board. Now included are the following safety features: automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure-warning with lane-keeping assist. Some other features that are now standard include heated front seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlights, and heated exterior mirrors.

Cargo and Seating Capacity

The CX-9 features three-row seating, a feature that many look for when car shopping. Another sought-after feature the 2020 CX-9 has? Captain’s Chair for the middle row, boosting the seating capacity up to seven. But when you’re not using those rear seats for seating, you can fold them down for some generous cargo space. With the third row down, there’s about 38.2 cubic feet available. With the second row folded down, that number almost doubles to 71.2 cubic feet. No matter if you’re taking the family on a trip or if you’re just picking up an order from the home improvement store, the CX-9 can handle it.
