The Skyactiv-D Diesel

In the US, there is only one vehicle with the 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine: the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature Diesel. It produces 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. It gives the CX-5 Diesel a 27/30/28 mpg spread. That’s a noticeable improvement over the 24/30/26 and 22/27/24 spreads of the 2.5-liter and turbo 2.5-liter CX-5 models, respectively.

The Next-Gen Skyactiv-X

The newest engine developed by Mazda is the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-X four-cylinder. It’s estimated to get 44-highway mpg through blending diesel and traditional combustion technology. So far, it’s only been employed in the European production model 2020 Mazda3. It is unknown if the engine will see a US release.
